The Medical Equipment Lending Center serving the cities of Youngtown, Surprise, El Mirage, Peoria, and Glendale is the place where over one hundred individuals every month come to borrow durable medical equipment for up to four months. Since the early 1960’s the Youngtown Community Fund Inc. has loaned durable medical equipment to area residents for short-term use. This includes walkers, canes, crutches, equipment for bathing in the tub or shower, items to assist at the commode, assist rails for tub and bed and wheelchairs.
Many people live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to purchase medical equipment they need, especially when they are recovering from an accident or surgery and only need it short term.
Our neighbors, like Mary who fell and broke her femur. She needed several pieces of equipment including a wheelchair, a toilet riser and shower chair. She didn't have the money to go out and buy everything needed. Fortunately, she heard about the Medical Equipment Lending Center and joined the thousands of people who were able to borrow equipment last year.
We operate with a very small staff and donations from those we assist and from individuals who appreciate the service we provide. Currently volunteers are needed for repairing broken equipment, distributing literature, cleaning and sanitizing returned equipment and fundraising. Donations are always appreciated. The Youngtown Community Fund is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, so any donation is tax deductible and donations qualify for the Arizona State Tax Credit.
